Welcome to Gap at Glen Brook

Written by Elie B, Spring 2021

Ten days into my Gap at Glen Brook journey, I gaze in awe at all the ways I have already grown. After almost an entire year of isolation I was more nervous than usual to start learning and living with a group of strangers. Yet, from day one I have felt us bonding into a family. I feel as though I know these people and this place without the surface level prologue.

Every day is packed with new adventures and challenges. We are engaging with our environment, building outdoor fires and taking care of chickens, creating agreements for how we want to shape our time together and reflecting on our personal experiences and purpose. I am given the opportunity and tools to build skills that I know I will use for the rest of my life. This week in Food Studies for example, the skills have been especially tasty!

Today my friends and I finally unmasked and stepped into the Glen Brook covid-less bubble. I am so thankful for another step of my transition into this community and for the space to explore who I am and what I bring to the world without the influence of normal life. I am excited to see what the next two months bring, to connect further with all my fellow gappers and our wonderful staff, and to meet the person I am already becoming.
